LUNA must be the patisserie I frequent most often in Singapore.
Oh, their Orh Nee Cake.
Good news for its fans: LUNA has expanded with a fresh café concept right in the heart of town at 111 Somerset – Lucine by LUNA.
“Lucine” translates to “moon” or “light,” a name that fittingly encapsulates the inviting vibe of the café.
The space is bright and modern, with sleek, elegant touches.
The large glass windows flood the space with natural light, enhancing the feeling of openness (and you can do some people watching too).
The café boasts a sophisticated yet casual atmosphere. Inside, you will find soft tones complemented by monochromatic marble elements.
The décor is accented by modern hanging lights and subtle artistic details, making it a space where you could easily spend a couple of hours either working or unwinding.
Good for both solo café goers and small groups.
So, you may ask, what’s the difference from LUNA?
While the café retains LUNA’s signature desserts, Lucine also introduces a new menu featuring a selection of hot, savoury dishes.
Here’s a breakdown of some of Lucine’s standout offerings:
Grilled Cheese Sandwich ($12.90)
Made with various cheeses including mozzarella, cheddar, and parmesan, just savour when the melted cheese oozes out of the crispy toasted sourdough.
The blend of these various cheeses results in that savoury richness, so simple yet satisfying.
Tofu Katsu Sandwich ($10.90)
For something a little different, this vegetarian option is a welcome addition – hearty yet light.
The tofu is panko-crusted, giving it a crunchy exterior while retaining a soft interior.
It is layered with cheddar and lettuce, and drizzled with sriracha mayo, which adds a slight kick.
Spam & Cheese Sandwich ($10.90)
Of course, I had to order something with spam. I was surprised to find quite a thick-cut battered chicken spam within.
The melted cheddar and sriracha mayo complete the sandwich, all within buttery toasted brioche.
Lucine Scrambled Eggs ($8.90)
Scrambled Eggs are my usual go-to order in any café.
The eggs are soft and creamy (I heard they took a long time to source the right eggs), served on toasted sourdough that adds a satisfying crunch.
The plus point: you can customise it with add-ons like crispy tater tots, earthy sautéed mushrooms, creamy spinach, or savoury chicken sausage, making it an adaptable option for any appetite.
Mushroom Soup ($8.90)
I love a Mushroom Soup that is thick and comforting, and this is just it.
Featuring a blend of shiitake, oyster, shimeji, and porcini mushrooms, the flavours are balanced with cream, and a side of toasted sourdough – for dipping into the velvety broth.
For the price, I was surprised to find a relatively big bowl with a generous portion, ideal for a light main or a shared starter.
Eggplant Salad ($12.90)
Not the usual salad. You get crispy panko-crusted eggplant fritters served alongside fresh lettuce, baby spinach, cherry tomatoes, and hard-boiled egg.
Alongside savoury offerings, Lucine’s beautiful entremets steal the show.
My usual go-tos are the Orh Nee, Luna 2.0 (Valrhona Guanaja 70% chocolate mousse), Tofu, and Pistachio Hazelnut, and this time I wanted to try something new.
Blossom ($8.50)
This pretty pink flower-shaped cake features strawberry elderflower yoghurt mousse, strawberry curd, and rose sponge.
My favourite part is the base of feuilletine crunch which adds an exciting texture.
Mint Chocolate ($8.50)
The Mint Chocolate cake will instantly appeal to mint lovers. The entremet is striking, with a bright mint green topping that resembles a succulent.
The mint chocolate brownie base is dense and chewy, grounding the dessert in chocolatey indulgence. One of my new favourites from LUNA.
Melon Berry ($8.50)
Of course I had to order a blue-coloured tart.
Topped with a soft blue Chantilly cream, this tart hides a refreshing rock melon curd beneath the surface.
The curd offers a sweet and slightly tangy flavour, while the blueberry almond frangipane adds a nutty depth to each bite.
Citrus Tart ($8.50)
A bright and zesty experience. This tart is filled with a smooth lime curd, along with orange confit that provides that deeper, more complex citrus flavour.
Black Sesame Latte ($8.50)
The latte is visually striking, with layers of creamy black sesame with lighter latte below.
It is recommended to drink the layers without first mixing it up to savour the nutty, toasty part. I liked that there were actual sesame seeds for that added fragrant crunch.
Tiramisu Latte ($8.50)
A decadent blend of coffee, cream, and cocoa, topped with a ladyfinger biscuit for a playful nod to the classic dessert.
Rich and indulgent, great for those seeking a dessert-like treat with a caffeine kick.
