Have you been to the Bukit Timah Interim Food Centre yet?

Newly set up, this interim market was created to house many of the original stallholders from the Bukit Timah Food Centre.

Bukit Timah Interim Food Centre

The old food centre has been demolished to make way for a new integrated development expected to be completed in 2029.

Located near Jalan Seh Chuan, the interim centre provides an assortment of well-loved local hawker dishes, though I saw that a number of the old favourites did not return (possibly due to the higher rental costs).

Bukit Timah Interim Food Centre

While some of you might miss the charm of the old food centre, the interim site brings a fresh take with a number of new stalls as well.

Here is Your Guide to Bukit Timah Interim Food Centre (will progressively add on more stalls as I head down more often)

Bukit Timah Interim Food Centre

Sin Chew Satay Bee Hoon
Bukit Timah Food Centre #01-037

Satay Bee Hoon is becoming harder to find in Singapore, and this stall serves up a noteworthy version.

The stall is open only four days a week.

You will probably find a long queue at this stall at all times, so be prepared to wait at least 20 to 30 minutes during peak hours.

They offer three serving sizes of Satay Bee Hoon, and you can also order the Cuttlefish Kang Kong.

Their take on this Teochew dish is sumptuous, featuring thin vermicelli, tau pok, cuttlefish, and pork slices, all drenched in a luscious, rich peanut sauce with special spices.

He Zhong Carrot Cake
Bukit Timah Food Centre #01-057

Probably one of the most famous White Carrot Cake stalls around, this stall is special for many reasons. Unlike the usual flat or scrambled style, it serves chunky blocks that are almost rectangular, stacked on top of one another.

The big chunks of white carrot cake have a tempting, eggy aroma, generally leaning towards the soft and fluffy side.

You get quite a generous portion of carrot cake. I enjoy the springy and flavourful chunks, mildly salty chai poh, and hints of garlic.

Seng Heng Hainanese Boneless Chicken Rice 成興海南起骨雞飯
Bukit Timah Food Centre #01-049

Seng Heng Hainanese Boneless Chicken Rice, a stall known for its consistently long queues, has maintained its loyal customer base even at the interim Bukit Timah Food Centre.

The popular offers a flavourful experience with both roasted and steamed chicken.

The boneless chicken, tender and easy to eat, is particularly notable in its roasted form for its slightly crispy skin and juicy meat.

The rice is fluffy and infused with chicken stock, striking a balance between fragrance and oiliness, complemented by a tangy, garlicky chilli sauce.

Yong Seng Satay
Bukit Timah Food Centre #01-005

The Yong Seng Satay stall serves up Chinese-style satay, most famous for its Pork Satay, along with Chicken and Mutton Satay. Ketupat is available at an additional cost.

The preparation time is lengthy and labour-intensive, with marination alone taking several hours.

It is hard to find tender Pork Satay these days, and this version had a good layer of meat with fats that added to its tenderness and succulence.

The slight hints of smoky, charred flavour intensify the taste, complemented well by the chunky peanut sauce with sweet pineapple mash.

Leng Kee Fish Soup
Bukit Timah Food Centre #01-062

The main attraction at the Leng Kee Fish Soup stall is its clean-tasting, light broth (so if you’re looking for something richer and heavier, this might not be for you).
The generous serving size of thick fish slices is another good reason to visit.

They also offer Fish Porridge, Sliced Fish Mee Sua, Sliced Fish Bee Hoon, Pig’s Liver Mee Sua, and Braised Pig’s Trotter.

The serving size is quite filling, and I loved that the soup had no typical fishy smell – each mouthful was packed with fresh fish slices, accompanied by tofu cubes and vegetables.

52 Prawn Noodle
Bukit Timah Food Centre #01-052

One of the new stalls that I spotted. 52 Prawn Noodle brings a fresh twist to traditional prawn mee, courtesy of its owner Samuel, a former ramen chef.

Samuel’s expertise in Japanese cooking is evident in his dishes, which range from the affordable Pork Rib Prawn Noodle ($5.80) to the indulgent Signature Prawn Noodle ($8.80).

His take on prawn noodles includes a rich, Malaysian-style dark sauce, fried shallots for extra crunch, and tender fresh prawns sliced in half for easy enjoyment.

My favourite aspect of the meal was the accompanying soup, packed with robust prawn essence that complemented the dish.

Xin Heng Fried Kway Teow
Bukit Timah Food Centre #01-053

Xin Heng Fried Kway Teow serves up a version of Char Kway Teow that stands out for its dry texture and minimal use of dark sauce.

This style may appeal to those who prefer a lighter, less oily rendition of the dish, as it doesn’t have the sweet and moist quality often associated with traditional Char Kway Teow.

The noodles come with slices of fish cake and a sprinkling of see hum (cockles).

Yonki Carrot Cake 永记传统菜頭粿
Bukit Timah Food Centre #01-014

This stall used to be known as Yong Ji Traditional Carrot Cake.

Unlike the other famous stall here, Yonki specialises in a Black Carrot Cake with a sweetishflavour profile.

This version comes with a generous addition of dark soy sauce, giving the dish a rich, caramelised sweetness that balances well with its savoury components.

The stall adds ample eggs, which bind the soft radish cake chunks into a hearty, cohesive bite.

While the texture is on the softer side, it retains a mild crisp from the frying process.

Zhong Zhong Fine Spice
Bukit Timah Food Centre #01-026

Zhong Zhong Fine Spice is known for its array of fried treats and ngoh hiang (five-spice rolls), making it a popular stall among residents nearby craving a mix of savoury snacks.

You can choose from a variety of items, including prawn crackers, fishcakes, fried beancurd, and Chinese sausage, each fried to order for a crisp finish.

The prawn cracker, a crowd favourite, is light and crispy without an overpowering oily taste, giving a satisfying crunch with each bite.

The chilli sauce, with its spicy and tangy profile, adds a bold kick, while the sweet pink sauce provides a gentler, slightly sticky alternative for those who prefer milder flavours.

138 Kway Chap & Porridge
Bukit Timah Food Centre #01-017

138 Kway Chap & Porridge offers a classic Teochew-style kway chap experience.

The stall serves kway, or flat rice sheets, bathed in a light but flavourful soy-based broth.

The accompanying ingredients are diverse, including tender pork belly, intestines, tau pok (beancurd puffs), and braised egg.

Each item is well-prepared, with the intestines thoroughly cleaned and braised to a soft, savoury finish. The pig skin has a gelatinous texture, adding a unique mouthfeel.

Their signature chilli sauce provides a tangy and spicy kick that elevates the dish, making it more balanced.

Bukit Timah Food Centre #01-071

That’s My Pizza, found at the other side of the interim Bukit Timah Food Centre, offers a mix of Asian-inspired and classic Neapolitan-style pizzas that bring an upscale dining experience to a hawker setting.

The pizzas are made with a long-fermented dough, giving them a soft, chewy base with a slightly crispy edge.

The menu includes unique options like the Curry Chicken Pizza, featuring tender, mildly spiced chicken, and the Mala Smoked Duck Pizza, which has a peppery kick and juicy slices of smoked duck.

If you prefer something more classic, you can also find options like the Hawaiian, with a sweet and salty combination of pineapple and ham, or the Parma Arugula, topped with aged ham for a premium touch.
