Golden Mile Tower on Beach Road, is a 24-storey commercial building dating back to 1974. It might not be a spot you frequent, but it is home to a variety of good eateries.

These includes Golden Mile Thien Kee Steamboat Hainanese Restaurant, Bucketta Seafood in a Bucket, Yorimichi Yakitori Izakaya, G Izakaya, and Er Jie Curry Puff.

Wang Bu Liao Traditional Prawn Noodles: A Hidden Gem at Golden Mile Tower

Wang Bu Liao Traditional Prawn Noodles 忘不了传统大虾面 has also drawn both praise and curiosity.

Situated in a modest corner and slightly hard-to-find spot (especially if you have never been here before), the eatery brought this sense of nostalgia.

Known for its distinctly traditional approach, this stall has gained quite a following for its comforting Prawn Noodles and Pork Rib variations.

From Herbal Broth to Soft Bone Pork Ribs: A Dive into Wang Bu Liao’s Menu

Key items include Prawn Noodle ($6, $8.50), Fish Maw Noodle ($6, $8), Soft Bone Prawn Noodle ($8), and even Pork Liver Mee Suah ($5).

On my visit, I started with their classic Soft Bone Prawn Noodles ($8), which came in a fragrant, brown broth. Wait, this was not what I was usually familiar with.

The broth had a distinct herbal tinge and depth that evoked home-cooked meals.

It was subtly seasoned, lacking overwhelming saltiness or strong seafood sweetness.

If you are used to a certain ‘type’ of Prawn Noodles with sweet and robust prawn essence, then this broth may get some getting used.

The prawns were decently fresh and sweet, pre-shelled, though some parts could have been cleaned more thoroughly.

The pork soft bones were generous in portion, tender to the point of falling off the bone.

They were so soft, you could even finish the whole piece with its gelatinous texture.

I also had the Dry Prawn Noodle ($6). The mee kia retained a firm, springy bite with each mouthful, coated in a fragrant sauce with shallot oil.

The homemade chilli has a pretty good kick as well.

Again, the accompanying soup with herbal flavours may just remind you of a combination of Prawn Mee and Bak Kut Teh.

Wang Bu Liao delivers a well-rounded prawn noodle experience that is both nostalgic and memorable.

It may not redefine Prawn Noodles, but it certainly does it with its own charm, which is, perhaps, its greatest appeal.
