[Seoul] No offence to other coffee shops in Myeongdong, but there are not that many artisanal specialty coffee places in the area.
There are Luft Coffee, Blue Bottle Coffee, and Coffee Libre, but many of the rest are chains.
Then I found Upnd Coffee Roasters 어펜드커피로스터스, a well-regarded coffee spot that combines expert roasting with a serene, minimalist aesthetic.
It is not that easy to locate though. Found on the second floor of the Chungil Building (near the ‘Fried Chicken’ area), Upnd offers a welcome escape from the busy streets below.
The café’s interior is designed with warm, soft lighting and muted colours, creating an environment that suits casual catch-ups or solo visits for coffee lovers.
Known for its quality roasts, Upnd’s coffee has earned praise for a bold yet balanced flavour profile.
The café also uses premium equipment, such as the Synesso espresso machine.
Highlights include their signature cream-topped Append Coffee (6,000 Won), which combines a smooth, house-made cream with hints of caramel and citrus, and the classic Americano (4,500 Won), made with their mild, nutty house blend.
The menu also includes an Einspänner (6,000 Won) and a Latte (5,000 Won), alongside a Café Mocha (6,000 Won) for a chocolatey treat.
Their popular signature drink, the Append Coffee (6,000 Won) is a cream latte with light citrus notes and caramel undertones, topped with house-made cream that adds a smooth sweetness.
In addition to coffee, Upnd offers a range of baked goods that pair well with their drinks.
For pastries, the café serves soft, buttery Plain Scones (3,500 Won), Chocolate Chunk Scones (3,500 Won), and a selection of buttery financiers, such as the Fig Financier (3,500 Won), Almond Croquant Financier (3,500 Won), and Plain Financier (3,000 Won).
These pastries add a light, sweet complement to the coffee without being overly filling.
You know where to head now if you need a decent coffee after the Myeongdong street food.
