Yuhua Market & Hawker Centre is a spot for Jurong East residents for affordable and comforting local food.

The market is conveniently located near Chinese Garden MRT station, making it easily accessible with around 50-60 stalls.

However, I find that some may confuse this with the similar-sounding Yuhua Village Food Centre though.

Yuhua Market & Hawker Centre

Despite being tucked away in a residential area, the hawker centre draws quite a number of customers, with favourites like Hainanese Chicken Rice, Bak Kut Teh, and traditional Teochew Kueh.

Prices are reasonable, and many of the stalls maintain loyal followings, offering hearty, affordable meals.

The centre has even gained attention for some stalls being Michelin-endorsed. Find out more here:

Lai Heng Handmade Teochew Kueh 莱兴手工潮州粿

Yuhua Market & Hawker Centre #01-218
Opening Hours: 6:30am – 2:30pm (Tues – Sun), Closed Mon

Traditional Delights Honoured with Michelin Bib Gourmand
Lai Heng Handmade Teochew Kueh has earned its spot on the Michelin Bib Gourmand Singapore, becoming the first Teochew Kueh stall to receive this prestigious recognition.

Known for its handmade kuehs, the stall draws long queues for its four traditional varieties: Soon Kueh (turnip and bamboo shoots), Ku Chai Kueh (chives), Chye Kueh (cabbage), and Peng Kueh (glutinous rice).

These kuehs, offered in both steamed and pan-fried versions, have delicate, chewy skins and nostalgic fillings, providing an authentic taste of Teochew heritage.

One standout is the Ku Chai Kueh, with its fragrant chive filling, while the Chye Kueh offers a distinct bitter-sweet flavour profile rarely found elsewhere.

Priced affordably, the kuehs are light yet satisfying, making it easy to enjoy several in one sitting.

Hua Xing Bak Kut Teh 華兴肉骨茶

Yuhua Market & Hawker Centre #01-171
Opening Hours: 8:30am – 2pm (Tue – Sun), Closed Mon

Iconic Pork Rib Soup with 40 Years of Tradition
Hua Xing Bak Kut The has been a beloved spot for pork rib soup lovers for over 40 years.

Known for its strong, peppery broth and tender pork ribs, this second-generation family-run stall has expanded from a single unit in the 1990s to a two-stall operation.

The Bak Kut Teh broth is a balance of savoury pork flavours, natural sweetness, and a peppery kick, complemented by herbs and spices such as star anise, cloves, and cinnamon.

The pork ribs, simmered till tender, offer just the right bite, while the soup’s lightness makes it suitable for all-day enjoyment.

Alongside their signature pork rib soup, Hua Xing is also popular for its Teochew-style steamed and Asam fish, served with preserved vegetables, tomatoes, and a strip of pork fat for added richness.

Xing Yun Hainanese Boneless Chicken Rice 幸运海南起骨鸡饭

Yuhua Market & Hawker Centre #01-202
Opening Hours: 7am – 2pm (Wed – Sun), Closed Mon, Tues

Affordable Comfort and Michelin Selected at Yuhua Market
Xing Yun Hainanese Boneless Chicken Rice has earned its reputation for flavourful yet affordable Chicken Rice. You will always see a long queue here.

Part of the reason? Its price.

Costing just $3.50 per plate, this Michelin Selected recipient draws long queues, with its succulent steamed chicken served in tender, deboned slices atop a bed of aromatic rice.

The chicken is complemented by a savoury brown sauce made with soy sauce, sesame oil, and a touch of sweetness.

The chilli and ginger sauces provide an added flavour kick that keeps regulars coming back for more.

Despite its simple appearance, the dish has garnered praise for its balanced flavours, with the juicy chicken being the star.

Although some find the rice slightly dry, the accompanying sauces help elevate the dish, making it a satisfying meal.

Soon Lee Heng (formerly F.E.D Specialty Lor Mee @ 109 Bukit Purmei)

Yuhua Market & Hawker Centre #01-198
Opening Hours: 7:30am – 3pm (Mon – Sun)

Lor Mee Since 1962, at Affordable Price
A stall with an extensive history since 1962, Soon Lee Heng has attracted a consistent following with its comforting flavours and traditional approach for its Signature Lor Mee.

This stall used to be called F.E.D Specialty Lor Mee.

The thick, starchy gravy is a prominent feature of the dish, binding together a mix of ingredients including braised pork, fish cake, and ngoh hiang (five-spice meat roll). Though I know some commented that there can be more meat.

I liked the bold flavour which is different from other stalls. However, the dish could benefit from a slightly more balanced vinegar-to-gravy ratio to lighten the heaviness.

Customers can customise their Lor Mee with add-ons, such as fried crispy bits or extra braised pork.

Simei Penang Laksa Speciality

Yuhua Market & Hawker Centre #01-199
Opening Hours: 8am – 2pm (Fri – Sun), 6:30am – 2pm (Wed – Thu), Closed Mon, Tue

Authentic Malay Laksa in Light Yet Flavourful Broth
Simei Penang Laksa Speciality is a go-to spot for those craving Penang-style dishes with Assam Laksa being the number one item on the menu.

This Penang Laksa ($4) features a light, tangy broth that combines the sourness of tamarind with the aroma of lemongrass and mackerel.

While the assam broth may not be as thick as traditional Penang versions, it still provides an enjoyable experience.

The lighter consistency might appeal to those who prefer a less intense soup while still enjoying the dish’s characteristic tanginess, though some would have enjoyed more it in a thicker version.

Prices here are budget-friendly, with a bowl of Laksa or a plate of Kway Teow costing between $4 or $5.50.

Poon Kee Wanton Noodle

Yuhua Market & Hawker Centre #01-200
Opening Hours: 4:30am – 1pm (Sat – Wed), Closed Thu, Fri

Humble Wanton Meal with Old-School Taste
Poon Kee offers a hawker experience for wanton noodle lovers, with that old-school flavour. It does attract quite a queue.

On the Wanton Mee ($4), the noodles are relatively springy, pleasantly chewy with a good bite, coated in a light yet flavorful sauce that complements the dish well.

The dumplings are my favourite, offering familiar comfort with their minced pork and shrimp filling.

I find the char siew a bit lean or chewy for their taste, but it still pairs adequately with the noodles. A decent all-rounded plate for that taste of nostalgia.

Famous Sungei Road Trishaw Laksa

Yuhua Market & Hawker Centre #01-199
Opening Hours: 8:30am – 2pm (Tue – Sun), Closed Mon

Generous Portion of Tasty Laksa with Generous Toppings
This stall offers Laksa, Mee Rebus and Mee Siam, priced affordably from $3.50. I don’t think they are related to the other ‘Sungei Road’ Laksa brand.

Unlike many other Laksas, their gravy isn’t overwhelmingly spicy but instead balances the spices with a subtle peanutty note.

The noodles are smooth and pair well with the flavours of the soup, providing a comforting and hearty meal that’s satisfying without being too heavy.

One of the highlights is the generous portion of hum (cockles), tender slices of fishcake, and fresh prawns, adding layers of texture.

Jing Jing Hokkien Mee & Oyster Omelette

Yuhua Market & Hawker Centre #01-208
Opening Hours: 8:30am – 2pm (Tue – Sun), Closed Mon

Soft and Moist Carrot Cakes with Nice Wok Hei
A popular stall that consistently draws a crowd, Jing Jing Hokkien Mee & Oyster Omelette also delivers classic Singaporean dishes like Hokkien Mee and Carrot Cake in affordable prices.

I found the Black Carrot Cake slightly sweeter than many other places, with a soft interior and a crispy outer layer. Good to taste that it is not too oily.

Meanwhile, the White Carrot Cake leans towards an eggier texture, with plenty of crispiness from the fried eggs, but it can be inconsistent in terms of seasoning. Still not bad overall.

Guang Tai

Yuhua Market & Hawker Centre #01-189
Opening Hours: 6am – 8:30pm (Mon – Sun)

Traditional Lor Mee in Thick Gravy
Another Lor Mee stall at Yuhua. Guang Tai offers a solid rendition of Lor Mee, and that’s the only thing they sell.

Featuring a thick and flavorful gravy that clings to the yellow noodles, the Lor Mee ($4) tastes hearty and comforting. The toppings are considered generous for the price.

Adding vinegar and chilli enhances the taste, cutting through the richness of the gravy while balancing the dish’s flavours.

The stall also offers fried ingredients to accompany the Lor Mee, like crispy fritters and fish nuggets, which add texture to the bowl.

Ah Wei Jing Dian 阿伟经典拉面小笼包

Yuhua Market & Hawker Centre #01-220
Opening Hours: 9:30am – 8:30pm (Thu – Sun), Closed Mon, Tue, Wed

Various Types of Dumplings and Noodles Bursting in Flavours
Ah Wei Jing Dian is for those seeking affordable dumpling and noodle dishes, particularly the Xiao Long Bao (steamed mini buns) and the Szechuan Spicy Wontons.

Their Xiao Long Bao ($5 for 7pcs) delivers quite a burst of hot broth. The dumpling skin is on the thinner side, allowing the juicy pork filling to stand out. The meat is fresh and tender.

As for their Szechuan Spicy Noodles ($5.00), it is generously coated in chili oil, which brings heat and a hint of numbing spice, characteristic of authentic Szechuan flavours.

There is a layer of crushed peanuts on top, adding a bit of texture and an earthy taste to balance the spiciness.

You may also like the Szechuan Spicy Wontons ($5.50 for 10pcs). Although it is not as spicy as expected, the chili oil is fragrant and slightly tangy, creating a balance depth of tastiness.

Additionally, customers can enjoy options such as Braised Pork Noodles ($4.00) and Dry Noodles with Peanut Sauce ($3.50), providing a range of affordable, hearty meals.

Yuhua Market & Hawker Centre

Li Fang Zhou Pin

Yuhua Market & Hawker Centre #01-205
Opening Hours: 7:30am – 2pm (Wed – Mon), Closed Tue

Heartwarming Meals of Congee in Many Variations
The simplicity and attention to the traditional preparation methods of the Congee, combined with its affordable prices, make Li Fang Zhou Pin a comforting choice.

Their famous signature item is the Congee in Boat Style ($5), which features sliced fish, cuttlefish, and chive – satisfying for its amount of ingredients and thick texture (can still see a bit of rice rains).

The mix of seafood elements gives the dish a delicate sweetness, while the nuts and fried shallots sprinkled on top add a layer of crispiness that contrasts well with the silky congee.

Their Century Egg and Lean Meat Congee ($3.50) is another popular item, best dipped with some crispy you tiao. The rich flavor of century egg blends with the lean pork, giving this dish a savoury character.
