[Ipoh] Heard of Tong Sui Kai or “Dessert Street” in Ipoh before?

The slightly under-rated street food haven offers a wide range of local delights from over 50 hawker stalls.

Though it is named after desserts, the street also serves savoury favourites like Beef Noodles, Popiah, Chee Cheong Fun and Wanton Mee.

With its affordable prices and lively atmosphere, Tong Sui Kai is a spot for anyone looking to experience authentic Ipoh street food all in one seating.

The most ‘elusive’ stall is probably Cheong Kee Soup Lembu Beef Noodle 章记牛腩粉.

Cheong Kee operates on a limited schedule, opening from 3pm to 8pm on Thursday to Saturday.

This narrow window of operation makes it important to plan accordingly if you want to savour its popular Beef Noodle Soup.

The setting itself is humble, typical of a classic street food stall.

A bowl of Beef Noodles comes in two sizes: large (RM8) and small (RM7). For those who prefer just the soup, the beef soup is priced at RM7 per bowl.

If you are looking for something extra, beef balls are available at RM1 per piece (do add them).

The menu also offers other add-ons, such as cow stomach (RM7) and additional noodles (RM2).

When I saw the soup, I thought it was light and clear, and expected it to be on the blander side?

Surprisingly, the broth is flavourful that carries the deep flavour of slow-cooked beef with a clean finish.

However, some tourists may find the soup strangely on the sweet side.

The noodles are served with tender slices of beef, and I added beef balls that are well-seasoned and have a bouncy dense texture.
